That's exactly what the 15–year–old boy said.
Our winter camp in Colorado was about to wrap up.
The blind kids had listened to the camp chaplain tell the last wonderful story about Jesus – His crucifixion, His resurrection, and how they will see Him with their own eyes at His second coming.
For the last time they had sung together, "Amazing grace, how sweet the sound . . . I once was blind, but now I see."
And now Vasiliy, 15, was standing around on Saturday night chilling out with some of the friends he had made during the week.
"I want a Braille New Testament," he said. Then he emphasized it, "I need a Bible SO bad . . . I do!"
Vasiliy was born in Russia – that's why his name sounds unusual here in this country.
He had a tough introduction to life . . . an infection when he was just a couple of days old, multiple surgeries at 7 days. When he was 2 years old and learning to jump, he messed up his leg so seriously it required surgery. The next accident was when he was pushed into a fireplace. "I was burned pretty bad," he remembers.
Life has smoothed out a bit since then. He and his family – including an older brother, an older sister, and a younger sister – came to America when he was 3. He had cataract surgery on his eyes when he was 5.
Now he can read by lightly touching Braille dots with his fingers. He's finished 10th grade. "I like math," he'll tell you. He runs track in spite of his bad eyesight.
He lives in Montana and wishes he had a horse.
But even more, he wishes he had a Bible.
Is that too much to ask?
Did you know more than 10 million people in North America are blind or vision impaired? They can't read God's Word in ordinary print.
They need large print or braille Bibles. Or maybe they can only listen to someone else reading it for them. They want Bible study guides.
Because Christian Record Services is a nonprofit organization, we depend on your tax-deductible gifts from people like you to help us help the blind see Jesus. Your gift, whatever its size, will make a "forever" difference.
